EastEnders has teased the first dramatic scenes that we can expect to see over Christmas and while the very brief trailer gives very little away, one thing it does reveal is a very dark and foreboding atmosphere thanks to Max Branning and mysterious Aidan Maguire.
Fans know that the shady characters will be taking centre stage over the festive season, with the Brannings set to be torn apart by a catastrophic series of events and Mick Carter being drawn deeper into Aidan’s murky and criminal world.
In the snippets of footage, an optimistic Sharon Mitchell is preparing for a classic knees up in the Queen Vic, indicating that it’s what Christmas in Walford is all apart. Except for all the death, misery and heartbreak, right Shazza? How long have you lived here now!?
It’s all smiles in the Vic as Mick and Linda celebrate their vow renewal in festive circumstances. Well all smiles except for a very dangerous looking Aidan who is fixing the couple with a menacing glare.
He will leave Mick shaken when he announces that he has concealed a gun on the premises and called the police, making Mick realise that he is not to be messed with. Could Mick be spending Christmas night behind bars? Or is this all a ploy to force him back on board with the plan?
The trailer, which has a sinister version of Silent Night playing across it, finishes with Max standing in the rain – and if looks could kill! Well, maybe they will…
EastEnders airs its Christmas Day episode at 9pm on BBC One.
