It looks like were in for a longer wait to see Dwayne Johnson and Jack Whitehall on screen together than we initially thought.

The pair have both been cast in the forthcoming Disney movie Jungle Cruise, which is based on the Disney Park attraction of the same name.

Insert pun about the film being a rollercoaster ride here…

Anyway, the movie – which will also see A Quiet Places Emily Blunt playing a leading role – was originally set for an October 2019 release, but, as Johnson announced yesterday, that date has now been pushed back.

The actor and former wrestler confirmed on Twitter that Jungle Cruise is now due for release on July 24, 2020 – promising the adventure of a lifetime.

ITS OFFICIAL – JULY 24th, 2020.

Whitehalls casting attracted plenty of headlines back in the summer after he was confirmed to be playing Disneys first-ever openly gay character in Jungle Cruise.

Im so honoured to be part of this epic adventure, Whitehall remarked back in August about the news.

Filming is underway and I am having the time of my life with my amazing co-stars.

The casting did attract a backlash, however, with complaints being directed at Disney for their failure to cast a gay actor in the role.

Whitehall subsequently received a public backing from Russell Tovey during the height of the furore, with the Being Human actor saying: Just let him act.
