Tractor destroyed in blaze on property of drought-affected farmer

A TRACTOR worth thousands of dollars was destroyed in an afternoon blaze in Dubbo.

Multiple crews of firefighters were called to a property on Rawsonville Road at 3.30pm on Wednesday following reports a tractor had caught on fire in a paddock

NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) Orana district officer David Nicholson said the tractor was well alight upon the arrival of the firefighters.

“We believe the guy was driving the tractor, got off and left it running,” he said.

“It had a feed trailer and he [the man] turned and it had flames and smoke coming out of it.

“It was totally destroyed.”

Mr Nicholson said the loss of the tractor during the widespread drought would have a big impact on this farmer.

“For farmers who are struggling [with the drought], its the last thing they need,” he said.

Mr Nicholson said the matter was not under investigation and crews did not believe there were any suspicious circumstances.

The blaze was attended by three NSW RFS trucks and a Fire and Rescue NSW crew from Dubbo.

“Its a timely reminder for all farmers to maintain their vehicles when working in the dry conditions,” Mr Nicholson.
