The award-winning rapper J Hus has been arrested and charged with carrying a knife.

The 23-year-old rapper was arrested earlier this week on 21 June in East London after a vehicle carrying him was stopped by a marked police car.

Police confirmed his arrest to Metro.co.uk in a statement using his real name Momodou Jallow, adding that he was remanded in custody to appear at Thames Magistrates Court on Friday, 22 June.

The occupants of the vehicle were searched and a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a knife/bladed article, the statement read, before confirming that the rapper was charged.

His arrest for carrying a knife could leave his upcoming gigs in the next month in doubt, given that knife crime in the capital has rocketed.

Scheduled appearances include a slot at TRNSMT festival in Glasgow on 30 June and Londons Wireless festival on 7 July.

Bursting onto the scene in 2016 hes been one of the rising stars of British rap, with his debut album earning him three nominations at this years Brit awards.

Metro.co.uk has reached out to J Hus reps for comment.
