Coronation Street will next week set the ball rolling on a heartbreaking new storyline for the Webster family which will see young Jack infected with sepsis, leaving Kevin terrified that his son is going to have his leg amputated.

In scenes at the end of the episodes next week, Jack falls while innocently playing football with Sophie and when he grazes his knee they think nothing more of it.

In the days that follow though, Jack falls ill and is taken to A&E but after he is sent home, it is Ali Neeson that sees the signs that he is suffering from sepsis and needs emergency treatment.

As Jack is rushed to hospital, Kevin will be gutted to hear that doctors might have to remove Jacks leg to stem the infection but can the family cope with the harrowing events – and will Kevin blame Sophie for what has happened?

UK Sepsis Trust chief Dr Ron Daniels shared: Stories like Jacks remind us of the devastating cost of sepsis. The condition affects 250,000 people every year in the UK and claims 44,000 lives – more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer, and road accidents combined.

One to watch: Friday 29th June at 8:30pm on ITV.
