Some of the biggest names in entertainment come together at The Roundhouse, Camden on 4 June for an evening of solidarity with young Palestinian refugees, in order to show them that their struggle to transform their lives is encouraged and supported by people in Britain, and throughout the world.

The event – a benefit show for British childrens charity HOPING – will be hosted by comedian John Bishop, with performances from Patti Smith, Thurston Moore, Loyle Carner, with poetry from Manchester United legend Eric Cantona and headlined by indie giants The Libertines.

Metro.co.uk spoke exclusively with Libertines lead singer Carl Barat ahead of the star studded evening.

What does the charity mean to you?

I like the approach of focusing on the future and the fact that its really hard for Palestinian children growing up in refugee camps to see any horizon. So the focus on education obviously, but also the arts; music, creativity, photography and theatre. To encourage creativity and that we in Britain support them and are in solidarity with them. Hoping with them I guess…

How did the collaboration with Bella Freud come about for this event?

We have a mutual friend, and some friends like Primal Scream and Noel (Gallagher) have played benefits for Hoping before; that and the mutual desire to do something positive.

On a personal level, how do you empathise with the struggles of the Palestinian people?

We live a different reality obviously, but just on a basic human level, I empathise with anyone denied their basic rights and made to live in terrible conditions.

What can we expect from the live set on the night?

Four boys playing their hearts out for Palestine.

Roundhouse is an amazing venue, what was the best gig youve ever played and how did it go down?

Ive played there a few times, with Amy (Winehouse) too, but one that sticks out was with Paul Weller, though the post-match celebrations were rather exuberant, so its rather hazy.

Can we look forward to hearing any of your new material?

Youll have to see on the night wont you.

Talking music, are there any new or old musical influences that have contributed towards the new album?

Were trying to make a record and a sound that we havent made before, really in response to our surroundings, our environment and the moment were in.The musical influences for that are too varied and diverse to get into it.

What bands are you listening to at the moment?

Goat Girl. Baxter Dury. Lock.

What can we expect from the new album?

Four boys playing their hearts out for the universe.

Finally, the Libertines seem to be stronger than ever, what brought you back together?

The collective realisation that we create something special when were together, more so than when were apart.
