Danny Williams forced to buy more race gear for his Country Championships armada

Goulburn trainer Danny Williams can't remember having 10 horses race on one day, let alone in one race, like he has in the South East Country Championships qualifier at his home track on Saturday.

Williams' dominance of the heat brings with it other pressures rather than just winning the race.

"I haven't got enough staff to strap them all, so we are going to have to count on other stables to help us out. We had to go out and buy a couple of thousand dollars of race gear because we didn't have enough race-day bridles and leads for all of them," Williams said.

He will have nine runners in the qualifier if El Mo, an emergency, doesn't get a start, and they are headed by odds-on favourite Don't Give A Damn, a strong winner from Rosehill three weeks ago.

"He is the horse everyone is talking about and is on his way to better races," Williams said. "He is like all the others, he is going to need a bit of luck in the big field, especially from the wide gate.

"It think he is up to running in the Doncaster if everything goes right, and this race works well into his program.

"I jumped him out with Kopi Luwak the other day and Kopi got him, but he is a better horse on race day."

The Williams team ranges from Don't Give A Damn at $1.65 favourite at Sportsbet to the $101 outsider O'lordy and includes promising Chewbacca and Acquittal as well as Pumpkin Pie, which won this heat last year.

"It is a funny feeling going into the race because only one of them can win and only two of them can make the final if we are lucky," Williams said.

"We have targeted the race with a lot of horses and to get this many there is a bit overwhelming. I just want to see them all race well."

Williams will send She Knows to Rosehill to start his day in the Highway Handicap.

She is a Highway winner already and has been placed in two others in her five starts and Williams wants to give her another chance at the series before it goes into hibernation during the autumn carnival.

"If there was another 1100-metre or 1200 Highway in a couple of weeks we would be starting at Goulburn, but this might be the only one she can win this time in," Williams said.

"She is a very fast filly and will improve for the run but she might be classy enough to get away with it."
