Jacqueline Jossa has made her EastEnders exit as Lauren Branning’s final scenes aired tonight in the wake of Abi’s funeral – and fans were left surprised and potentially a little disheartened when she decided to ditch Josh Hemmings and head off on her own.
It’s been a rocky few months for the Brannings – in the wake of Max’s involvement with Weyland and Co being exposed, Abi fell to her death and Lauren was herself injured. It took Max a long time to let Abi go and Lauren ended up blaming her dad for her sister’s death.
Despite Max being ordered to stay away from the funeral he turned up and he and Lauren shared some highly charged final moments as she decided that she needed to focus on a future for just herself and Louie.
This meant that her plans to move to Glasgow with Josh were scrapped and Max and Lauren built a couple of bridges with one another before she headed off. The door has been left open for a future return for Lauren.
Jacqueline and her co-star Lorna Fitzgerald were both written out by returning boss John Yorke and the storyline has certainly been a dramatic one. But tonight saw the end of an era as final goodbyes were said to both Branning sisters.
As for Max, where he goes from here remains to be seen but he has vowed to get things right with his new granddaughter Abi. And with Rainie Cross due to return, there are bound to be big problems…
