Nolte — Harveywood: Uproar After Golden Globes Snubs Female Directors

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association released its Golden Globe nominations Monday and failed to find even a single female director worthy. This is definitely not shaping up to be the year of the women, but what else are we to expect from an industry almost exclusively run by left-wing men who either abuse women or enable those abusers?

Moreover, Golden Globe voters are members of the elite media, and as we have all seen, the elite media is every bit as monstrous as Harveywood. So when you mix Hollywood and the media, the science informs us that all you are going to get is some big-time woman-hating.

Here are the Best Director nominations:

  • Guillermo del Toro: The Shape of Water
  • Martin McDonagh: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
  • Christopher Nolan: Dunkirk
  • Ridley Scott: All The Money in the World
  • Steven Spielberg: The Post

Notably missing: Wonder Woman’s Patty Jenkins; Mudbound’s Dee Rees, Lady Bird’s Greta Gerwig, Detroit’s Kathryn Bigelow (on of Hollywood’s most talented directors ever), and The Beguiled’s Sofia Coppola.

All five of those films are critically acclaimed and some received Globe nominations in other categories.

Lady Bird received nominations for Best Picture (musical or comedy), screenplay, actress, and supporting actress. Mudbound for supporting actress. Wonder Woman and Detroit were skunked entirely. The Beguiled was also blanked by the Golden Globes, but Coppola did become only the second woman in its 70-year history to win Best Director at Cannes.

The reactionary Huffington Post is mad: “It is time we accept and acknowledge this truth: For all its charm, glitz and glam, the Golden Globes are basic as hell,” Zeba Blay writes, but argues she is not looking for affirmative action. “The problem is that these five men and their films were, quite frankly, not the best or most interesting or even most timely films of the year[.]”

Over at the left-wing Daily Beast Kevin Fallon says that it is “certainly disheartening and arguably tone-deaf to see a Best Director category lacking any female contenders.”

Writing at Rotten Tomatoes, Mekeisha Madden Toby believes the “Golden Globes have a problem with women directors” and that this failure highlights a report that says “men dominate the director’s chair by an extremely wide margin.”

Actress Amber Tamblyn wants the men nominated to “speak to the fact that they don’t share this honor with a single woman[.]”

Someone else complaining on Twitter declared Mexican film director Guillermo del Tor a “white male.”

Hollywood has been dominated by white males since the beginning of time, the misrepresentation in the directors category of the Golden Globes this year is a huge disappointment & the continuing injustice towards women and people of color who make such incredible films every year.

Like about 97% of America, I have not seen most of these movies — and won’t. But I have seen Wonder Woman, which was nothing more than a somewhat above average comic book movie. Jenkins can certainly hang with the men in this regard, but comic directors — male or female — are almost never nominated for these kinds of awards.

Having also seen Dunkirk, anyone claiming Christopher Nolan is not deserving and long overdue, is out of their minds.
